Windows
Windows is an Operating System which is Developed and sold by Microsoft. Microsoft introduced windows in 1985 as a graphical Operating System for MS-DOS.
Soon the Windows started Dominating the Personal computer market with 90% market share, overtaking Mac-OS.
Windows 1.0 was the first version of Windows released by Microsoft in 1985. The Components included were - Calculator, Calendar, Cardfile, Clipboard viewer, Clock, Control Panel, Notepad, Paint, Reversi, Terminal and Write.
After that the next version of Windows i.e. Windows 2.0 was released in 1987. It became more popular than Windows 1.0. Windows 2.0 also changed the OS from titled Windows to overlapping Windows.
From then Windows started gaining Popularity and Since then Microsoft has came up with better and efficient Operating Systems.
Below there is the list of versions of Windows launched by Microsoft Since 1985.

After Windows 2.x the next most consumer-oriented OS was Windows 95. Windows 95 again provided a major boom in the spread and demand of Windows. While it still was MS-DOS based but supported many components such as - 32-bit applications, plug and play hardware, preemptive multitasking, long file names of up to 255 characters.
Windows 95 became the major commercial Success for Microsoft.
From then Microsoft has came up with one after the another major Versions of Windows - Windows XP , Windows 7 , Windows 8.
Security
The Earlier Versions of Windows were originally designed for ease of use on a single-user PC without a network Connection and did not have security features however from Windows NT and it's successors, Security feature were well developed and can be used on a multi-user PC.
Microsoft Started releasing Security patches with it's Windows update Service because of being a frequent target of computer worm and virus writers. From Windows XP an auto-update option was made available.
Windows Vista introduced a new system called User Account Control.In this system a logon session is created and the most basic privileges were assigned to the user. While logging in as a user , two separate tokens were assigned. With the first token all the privileges were provided to administrator and second token with some restrictions was provided to the other users/Guest.
