Windows Phone is a Mobile Operating System developed by Microsoft. Windows user Interface is derived from Metro design Language developed by Microsoft. It was first launched in October 2010 with Windows Phone 7.
The current Version of Windows Phone in market is Windows Phone 8.1 , launched in April 2014. The Successor of this Version would be Windows Phone 10 releasing in 2015.
Windows Phone is written in C,C++ language and available in 130 Languages.
Windows Mobile work was started in 2004 with Project Code Name "Photon" but was cancelled due to some reasons. The again in 2008 Windows Mobile was reconsidered by Microsoft and project was restarted. After that Microsoft came up with Windows 6.5 as it's first release.
In February 2011, Microsoft announced it's partnership with Nokia and said Windows Phone will become the Primary Operating-System for Nokia replacing - Symbian. The Companies announced integration as specifically:

• Bing would power search across Nokia devices
• Nokia Maps with Bing Maps
• Nokia's Ovi store with the Windows Phone Store

Versions

Windows Phone 8.1 - released in April 2013
                                - included a Notification Center
                                - Apps/Games could be installed on SD Card
                                - Added a third Column of Live Tiles
                                - Adds "Cortana" as a Personal Assistant 
Windows Phone 10 - Announced on 21 January 2015
